Antioxidants, ORAC, Oxidative stress? Is your head spinning yet?

Blog, Pantry

Have you heard of ORAC (or Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) value? Did you know plants, and essential oils, have ORAC values?

I know it is a mouthful but it is IMPORTANT, especially on a journey to wellness.

We all know vitamin C and Vitamin D can help reduce incidence of length of illness. However we often forget about other antioxidants

Have you heard of free radical binders? I am sure you have because many over the counter supplements used for anti-aging, to immune boosters, to joint health and anti-inflammatory needs often claim a strong ability to bind these free radicals.

Well essential oils naturally contain free radical binders (aka antioxidants). Remember, they are plants so just as the fruits that come from the plants have this capacity, the essential oil is even more concentrated.

So if you would like to increase the antioxidants levels in your body consider these oils:

  • Clove: 1,078,800
  • Myrrh: 379,000
  • Nutmeg: 158,100
  • Manuka: 166,200
  • Wintergreen: 101,700
  • Ginger: 99,300
  • Wolfberries: 33,000
*not an oil but one of the highest antioxidant values in a food/fruit.
  • Citrus oils: Can run from 1,700 - 17,000+ (Wellness tea)

So consider adding one of these to a daily roller ball, bath soak, or hot tea!

May your efforts be blessed many times over!

ANTIOXIDANT BALANCE

Free Radicals - Antioxidant binding capacity (ORAC VALUE) = oxidative stress.

Too many free radicals and not enough antioxidants = living below the wellness line.

💪🏻Drink 1 ounce of Ningxia Red daily

💪🏻Consume foods rich in Vitamin C,A, &E

💪🏻Supplement for the same vitamin. I prefer YL Super C and above mentioned supplements.
